Fort Belvoir, Virginia — In a compelling and clinically impactful presentation, Dr. Jing Cao and LTC(Ret) Vincent Kam introduced Motion Acupuncture to healthcare professionals at the Intrepid Spirit Center (ISC), located within ATAMMC, one of the premier military medical facilities in the United States. The event, attended by approximately 40 participants both in-person and virtually, highlighted the application of Motion Acupuncture as a novel, evidence-informed intervention for pain and functional disorders.

The presentation offered a deep dive into the theoretical framework and clinical methodology of Motion Acupuncture, a technique that integrates traditional meridian theory with contemporary neuromuscular science. Through a series of detailed case demonstrations, Dr. Cao and LTC(Ret) Kam illustrated how patients suffering from chronic pain and mobility limitations experienced significant, often immediate improvement—frequently within a single session.

The event drew participation from a wide spectrum of healthcare providers, including physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, behavioral health specialists, and rehabilitation professionals. The interdisciplinary audience responded with enthusiastic endorsement, praising the method for its minimally invasive nature, functional precision, and rapid clinical outcomes.

“This approach represents a remarkable convergence of traditional Eastern practice and modern Western rehabilitation principles,” one attending physician remarked. “The ability to restore range of motion and alleviate pain so quickly is truly extraordinary.”

The Intrepid Spirit Center operates within a comprehensive interdisciplinary model of care, addressing complex conditions such as traumatic brain injury, musculoskeletal pain, PTSD, and polytrauma. The center integrates specialties across physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, behavioral health, psychology, and neurology, providing service members with advanced, whole-person care.

The successful introduction of Motion Acupuncture has prompted ATAMMC leadership to begin formal evaluation and procedural steps toward incorporating Motion Acupuncture Needles into Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). This marks a significant advancement in the Military Health System’s exploration of complementary and integrative medicine modalities.

ATAMMC, in partnership with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, serves under the umbrella of the National Capital Region Medical Directorate (NCR MD), delivering coordinated care to active-duty service members and their families across the National Capital Region.

Dr. Cao and LTC(Ret) Kam’s presentation stands as a pivotal moment in the integration of Motion Acupuncture into the military healthcare system, and underscores the growing acceptance of this technique within mainstream Western medical practice. As interest continues to build, Motion Acupuncture is increasingly recognized not only as an effective pain intervention, but also as a valuable tool in multidisciplinary clinical settings.
